Damien Lay
As a highly accomplished and multi-award winning Filmmaker working in the Feature Film, Documentary and Traditional Film Animation genres, I have accumulated over 35 years of professional experience in all areas of film and television.
Vehement in my traditional film production techniques and am always looking for difficult and challenging film projects, always placing myself in extreme situations in search of compelling stories. I strive to create and develop project that would otherwise be deemed impossible.
The Vietnam War story "The Battle of Long Tan", featuring Sam Worthington, remains the highest rating program on paid television in Australia.
"He's Coming South" and "M24 - The Last Sunrise" resulted in the discovery of the lost WWII Japanese Midget Submarine, solving one of Australia's greatest maritime mysteries.
Prior to 2012, I was the only foreigner in the world permitted to operate in the most highly restricted areas of Myanmar (Burma), documenting and leading multiple search and recovery operations for both the Lady Southern Cross, the world's oldest and greatest aviation mystery, and the Great Bell of King Dhammazedi, the most significant relic of the Buddhist religion, missing for over 400 years.
Whilst filmmaking and adventure is my passion, it is storytelling that goes beyond the surface level, engaging and moving an audience on a higher level that I have dedicated myself to mastering.
I've worked through various genres, including "Semi Colon" (2012), a genre-bending art-house feature film, through to my latest feature film "Out Of The Burning Blue" (2016), an old-school WWI action adventure film shot on location in California.
Working internationally, I enjoy dividing my time mainly between Asia, the US and Australia. I am always interested in discussing new projects, please contact me anytime.
